National Register of Innovation

The Honey Bee Network for the last 12 years has been documenting grassroots innovations of knowledge rich economically poor people across the world. The network has created new standards of accountability and ethics in dealing with grassroots innovations by strengthening people to people learning. the formal sector cannot use the knowledge of poor without acknowledgement, citation and of course, prior informed consent - a notion Honey Bee has supported much before the Convention of Biodiversity came into existence. Similarly, the documentation and dissemination of these innovations must take place in local language without exhausting the Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) of innovative communities and individuals.

A National Register of Grassroots Inventions and Innovations has been proposed by National Innovation Foundation (NIF) to provide recognition to the grassroots innovations. The register would create a database for documenting innovations and would protect the IPR of the innovator. A multilingual online registry of innovation has been activated at www.nifindia.org . Innovations could also be registered online at sristi website.

A new entry at the site undergo a process of verification. The innovator/ scouter/submitter would be kept informed about the status of his submission.

Our goal is to make India a innovative society and a global leader in sustainable technologies.
